Outer Banks Sporting Events, It is Virtually Possible!

This past weekend was what would have been the TowneBank Outer Banks Marathon Weekend!

So nice to welcome our virtual runners to the Outer Banks and see them creative with their course and distance!  Cheers to you all!!

From a runner who came to the OBX to run her Virtual-

"Dear Outer Banks,

I'm leaving the Marriott Towne Place Suites Kill Devil Hills this morning for home in Falls Church, VA and just uploaded my race result. I finished this marathon yesterday in 4:13:37. Sadly, during my final loop back to the hotel my very old GPS watch died at mile 24.44 but the chrono time on my regular exercise watch captured the complete time. This was my 15th marathon but first 1st virtual one and I ended up running up and down the Virginia Dare Trail road, circling back to the Marriott periodically to use the restroom in my hotel room. I decided to wear a silly sign to make myself feel more official and it actually proved helpful in inviting helpful honks and cheers from others out walking biking running, and even exchanged some virtual high fives with other folks doing virtual distances. I also found the mile markers on this Dare Trail road mentally helpful. Weather was nice and all in all a great day for a marathon. I've sent along some pics from start to finish, and an after finish pic in front of the Wright Brothers Memorial sign with my daughter's rhinoceros that she told me to take with me for good luck, since we learned that a rhinoceros can run a 2 minute mile thus completing a marathon in approximately 53 minutes :)
I look forward to receiving medal and shirt swag in the mail, and am glad I kept my plans to come and run my 15th 26.2 here regardless.
I enjoyed myself in the Outer Banks this weekend and send best wishes for continued in person events when they can resume!

Thank you"
