No one would have said this three years ago, but Roanoke Island is becoming one of the Outer Banks epicenters for drinking. Downtown Manteo now offers several drinking establishments, including a brewery outpost, a distillery, two wine bars and much-loved local pub. Combine those Manteo bars with the downtown area’s superb walkability, and you have the perfect opportunity for bar-hopping. Keep in mind that Manteo bars close fairly early. The last one closes down by midnight, and if you need a ride home to the beach communities, make arrangements ahead of time.
Roanoke Island Bars/Manteo Bars and Tiki Huts
If you love a good tiki bar on a summer afternoon, you can’t beat the two you’ll find among the Roanoke Island/Manteo bars. One is down in the fishing village of Wanchese and the other is on the Nags Head-Manteo Causeway. Both are perfectly situated at a marina, making it easy to step off the boat from a day of fishing or dolphin-watching and be sipping a drink within minutes. These Roanoke Island/Manteo bars are open seasonally.
