In downtown Manteo’s Phoenix Shops, Bluegrass Island Trading Co. is a one-stop shop for everything bluegrass related and bluegrass-themed merchandise such as shirts, hats and ornaments. Bluegrass Island Trading Co. is also a box office location for many of the best local music events. Visit them online or call for tickets to the Outer Banks Bluegrass Island Festival, a premier four-day event the first weekend in October that features approximately 30 artists annually. While visiting the store, save some time for a bit of history: A permanent exhibit on the ghost town of Buffalo City is located inside the store. You can learn the story behind this fascinating area of mainland Dare County and even pick up some related gifts, such as flavored moonshine mixers that pay homage to Buffalo City’s bootleg past. Bluegrass Island Trading Co. is open seven days a week in season.
